Passing of Former President Jimmy Carter

ISLAMABAD: Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States, a U.S. Navy veteran, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, and a dedicated humanitarian. He devoted his life to advocating for peace, democracy, and human rights.

Throughout his extensive public service career, President Carter exemplified honesty, empathy, and a strong dedication to promoting the well-being, security, and liberty of others. He applied these principles to his foreign policy, negotiating the return of the Panama Canal to its rightful nation and establishing arms control agreements with the Soviet Union. His commitment was evident in every interaction, whether with world leaders or ordinary citizens.

He recognized that the destinies of Americans were deeply intertwined with those of people in other parts of the world, and he was one of the first to understand that protecting the environment and fostering global public health were essential to national security.

President Carter also demonstrated the power of relentless, principled diplomacy, notably by mediating a historic agreement between Israel and Egypt, leading to peace between two nations that had been at war for decades. His efforts stand as a vital reminder of what can be achieved, especially in the face of ongoing conflict and hardship in the region.

Even after leaving office, President Carter remained committed to pursuing peace and advancing human rights in both large and small ways, often alongside his wife and partner of 77 years, Rosalynn, who passed away last year. Together, they worked tirelessly, whether building homes for those in need or leading initiatives through the Carter Center to fight disease, resolve conflicts, monitor elections, and support democracy.

A man of deep faith, President Carter once said, “our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others.” By this standard, and many others, President Carter lived a truly blessed life.
