Pakistan vows to work constructively with UNSC members as two-year term starts

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has officially commenced its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-2026. On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to working collaboratively with all UNSC members and the broader UN community.

Speaking at a reception held for the heads of resident missions of UNSC member states at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to bridging divides, fostering consensus, and supporting the UNSC’s mandate in line with the principles of the UN Charter.

He noted that this marks the eighth time Pakistan has been elected to the UNSC, bringing with it a wealth of experience and steadfast adherence to the UN Charter’s values. Dar highlighted Pakistan’s significant contributions to global peace and security, particularly through its active participation in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions.

The deputy prime minister expressed Pakistan’s intent to work toward the peaceful and just resolution of issues on the UNSC agenda. He stated that as a Council member, Pakistan would oppose unilateral and unlawful uses or threats of force, combat terrorism in all forms, and support robust UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts.

Dar also extended gratitude to the UN member states for their overwhelming support in electing Pakistan to the Security Council, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to its global responsibilities.
