Pakistan urges UN to demand immediate ceasefire in Gaza

NEW YORK: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action by demanding an unconditional ceasefire to stop the ongoing violence and devastation in Gaza.

Speaking at the Security Council session on the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, emphasized the urgent need to end the bloodshed in Gaza. Ambassador Iftikhar also pressed the Security Council to establish safe and secure humanitarian corridors to ensure access to life-saving assistance. He highlighted the necessity of prioritizing reconstruction efforts to restore Gaza’s healthcare system, which has been severely damaged.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, Asim Iftikhar reiterated the call for granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations. He described this step as a moral obligation essential for solidifying the Two-State solution and ensuring its permanence.
