NUML inaugurates training program EnglishWorks
ISLAMABAD: The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) has launched the nationwide EnglishWorks training program, aimed at enhancing English proficiency and employability skills among Pakistani youth.
“EnglishWorks” is a U.S.-funded initiative under the Regional English Language Office (RELO), designed to equip young Pakistanis with essential skills for professional success, according to a press release.
The program focuses on business and professional English communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, personality development, and 21st-century digital and soft skills. So far, 6,000 young individuals have benefited from this initiative.Pakistan, Tajikistan sign several MoUs
Between 2023 and 2025, NUML is set to train an additional 2,655 students, equipping them with the necessary skills for future careers.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Rector NUML, Maj Gen Shahid Mahmood Kayani HI (M) (Retd), with Mr. Jerrold Frank, Head of RELO at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Rector NUML emphasized the importance of employability skills for Pakistani youth and the need to train educators who can guide students toward successful careers. He highlighted how such initiatives contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic progress and its global reputation as a forward-looking nation.
Expressing appreciation for the U.S. Embassy’s support, he noted that these programs empower young Pakistanis to excel in freelancing, e-commerce, and digital marketing, leveraging opportunities in the growing digital economy.
Mr. Jerrold Frank expressed his delight in leading this initiative and shared insights from his visits to EnglishWorks program sites across Karachi, Khyber, and Gilgit. He commended NUML’s dedication to providing quality education in English and other languages, helping uplift communities across the country.
The event was attended by officials from RELO and NUML, along with a large number of English teachers from various cities, reinforcing a shared commitment to enhancing education and career opportunities for Pakistani youth.
