EU Concerned over 25 Civilians Sentenced by Military Court
Zafar iqbal:
The European Union expresses concern over the conviction of twenty-five civilians by a military tribunal on December 21 in Pakistan.
These judgments are regarded as inconsistent with Pakistan’s commitments under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).European Union officially lifts ban on PIA
According to Article 14 of the ICCPR, every individual has the right to a fair and public trial in an independent, impartial, and competent court, along with the right to adequate and effective legal representation.
The ICCPR also mandates that any ruling in a criminal case must be made public. Under the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+), countries benefiting from this scheme, including Pakistan, have voluntarily pledged to implement 27 core international conventions—such as the ICCPR—effectively to maintain their GSP+ status.
