OGRA slightly increases RLNG prices for August 2025

RLNG tariffs for SNGPL and SSGCL rise by up to 1.46% due to higher DES costs.

Staff Report:

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a marginal increase in Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) prices for August 2025, in line with federal government policy guidelines. Effective from August 1, the adjustment reflects a slight rise in Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) prices.

For Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), transmission rates increased from $10.8338 per MMBtu in July to $10.9770 in August, while distribution rates rose from $11.5787 to $11.7330, marking a 1.32% and 1.33% increase, respectively. For Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), transmission rates climbed from $9.4713 to $9.6097, and distribution rates from $10.5737 to $10.7285, each showing a 1.46% rise.

OGRA Cuts RLNG Prices for June 2025

OGRA attributed the upward revision to a minor increase in DES prices, a key factor in monthly RLNG tariff calculations. RLNG, imported in liquefied form and regasified before being supplied to consumers, plays a vital role in bridging Pakistan’s natural gas supply gap, especially for power generation and industrial use.

Introduced in 2015, RLNG pricing is linked to global LNG market rates, shipping costs, port charges, and currency exchange fluctuations. Separate tariffs are calculated for SNGPL and SSGCL due to variations in infrastructure, supply chains, and customer bases. Even minor price shifts can affect electricity generation costs and industrial competitiveness.
