Warner to debut in HBL PSL 2025
LAHORE: New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell became the first pick in the HBL PSL 2025 player draft as the two-time champions, Lahore Qalandars, secured his services to strengthen their batting lineup during the event held at Hazoori Bagh, Lahore Fort, on Monday afternoon.
Left-handed batter David Warner was selected by the 2020 HBL PSL champions Karachi Kings with the second pick in the first Platinum round. Warner, a seasoned campaigner with 12,727 runs in 392 T20 matches, will make his much-anticipated debut in this PSL season.HBL PSL Player Draft 2025 to Take Place on Jan 13
Peshawar Zalmi exercised their Right to Match option to retain Tom Kohler-Cadmore, initially picked by Quetta Gladiators. Kohler-Cadmore has been a key player for Zalmi over the last four PSL seasons.
eanwhile, the Gladiators brought in New Zealand’s Mark Chapman, a dual international who has played 81 T20Is over a decade-long career.
Michael Bracewell and Matthew Short were the final selections in the first Platinum round, acquired by Multan Sultans and Islamabad United, respectively. Bracewell, an all-format player for New Zealand, has featured in 149 T20s, scoring 2,744 runs and taking 66 wickets. Short, aged 29, is expected to add firepower to Islamabad United’s batting as they aim for their fourth HBL PSL title later this year.
In the second Platinum round, Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings each made two picks. The Gladiators used their Wild Card option to bring all-rounder Faheem Ashraf into their squad. They also picked aggressive Kiwi opener Finn Allen, who, at 25 years old, has scored 1,141 runs in 47 T20Is for New Zealand, including two centuries at an impressive strike rate of 158.69.
