NEW YORK: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has unanimously approved a Pakistan-led resolution titled “Countering Disinformation for the Promotion and Protection of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information.”
Co-sponsored by over 50 Member States, the resolution was adopted during the 220th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris.PM Shehbaz Urges India to Engage in Dialogue for Peaceful Resolution of Kashmir Dispute
This initiative by Pakistan was prompted by the increasing prevalence and escalation of disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech globally.
Pakistan’s Permanent Delegate, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed gratitude to all Member States for their valuable contributions and support that facilitated the consensus adoption of the text aimed at effectively promoting and safeguarding freedom of expression and access to information.
