Third UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting, Islamabad, 15-16 April

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, in collaboration with the Republic of Korea, will jointly organize the Third United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), located at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, from April 15 to 16, 2025.

The event, themed “Towards a Safer and More Effective Peacekeeping: Use of Technology and Integrated Approach,” will bring together international participants and stakeholders to lay the groundwork for the upcoming UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference in Berlin, Germany, scheduled for May 13–14, 2025. This major biennial UN event gathers foreign and defense ministers to focus on advancing peacekeeping missions.

High-ranking officials from the Government of Pakistan, as well as senior UN representatives—including Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and Mr. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support—are expected to attend the Islamabad meeting.bharatpe sound box

The two-day gathering will include multiple panel sessions addressing the future of peacekeeping. These discussions will explore key topics such as emerging challenges to peacekeeping missions, how technology can improve the safety and effectiveness of peacekeepers, strategies to mitigate threats against them through technological innovation, the contribution of regional and inter-regional organizations in supporting UN missions, ensuring the operational effectiveness of peacekeepers, and promoting a cohesive strategy for lasting peace.

This event will serve as a platform to showcase Pakistan’s strong dedication to UN peacekeeping as one of the leading contributors of troops. Over time, Pakistan has sent more than 235,000 peacekeepers to 48 different UN missions. Notably, 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives in the service of international peace and security.

Hosting this Preparatory Meeting reflects Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the principles of UN Peacekeeping and its active role in promoting global peace and stability, as envisioned in the UN Charter.
