The agreement involves Telenor Pakistan, the Government of AJ&K, and SBEEC, who will collaborate on a smart metering system that allows both consumers and the power distribution company to track electricity usage in real-time.

This solution will help guarantee accurate billing, reduce energy wastage by analyzing usage patterns, and support data-driven decision-making to optimize the use of resources.

The initiative is also in line with Telenor Pakistan’s broader goal of promoting digital solutions for socio-economic development.

The MoU was signed at Telenor Pakistan’s Campus 345 in Islamabad, in the presence of Awais Vohra, Chief Technical Officer, Telenor Pakistan; Irshad Ahmed Qureshi, Secretary of the Electricity Department, Government of AJ&K; Zaffar Sami, Executive Director of SBEEC, and senior officials from the involved organizations.

During the event, Awais Vohra, Chief Technical Officer at Telenor Pakistan, remarked, “This pilot project, which is our first collaboration with any DISCO, marks an important milestone in the digital evolution of the energy sector. We appreciate the AJ&K government’s practical and forward-thinking approach in embracing new technologies. This initiative ensures real-time monitoring of energy consumption, fosters digitalization, and addresses system inefficiencies that cause consumer losses. It underscores the critical role of public-private partnerships in advancing digital solutions.”

Irshad Ahmed Qureshi, Secretary of the Electricity Department, Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K), added, “We are excited to collaborate with Telenor Pakistan and SBEEC on this groundbreaking initiative. Smart metering represents a revolutionary approach to energy management, and this partnership reflects our mutual vision of using technology to uplift the region socio-economically. We look forward to successfully implementing this pilot project and exploring its scalability.”

The pilot project is anticipated to serve as a blueprint for expanding similar projects throughout Pakistan.

Telenor Pakistan continues to lead the way in technological innovation, executing impactful projects that benefit communities and contribute to national progress. This MoU marks another milestone in Telenor’s commitment to empowering societies and driving digital transformation.
