Syngenta Pakistan installs Solar Energy System to power operations

Karachi: Syngenta is a globally recognized leader in plant science, dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture through innovation, research, and technology. The company also upholds a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability. In line with this vision, Syngenta Pakistan has recently installed a solar energy plant at its factory, generating over 300KW of renewable energy.
To further reinforce its dedication to sustainable business practices and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Syngenta Pakistan has initiated a project to transition its manufacturing facility in Karachi and its warehouses across the country—including those in Lahore, Multan, and Rahim Yar Khan—to solar energy. This initiative aims to lower operational costs while utilizing a renewable and eco-friendly energy source.agricultural solar solutions
Addressing stakeholders at the inaugural ceremony of the solar energy system at Syngenta’s Karachi plant, Zeeshan Baig, Country General Manager of Syngenta Pakistan, stated:
“This marks a significant milestone for Syngenta Pakistan as we shift our manufacturing facility to solar energy. As a responsible corporate entity, we are committed to driving sustainable growth, fully aligning with the global sustainability vision of the Syngenta Group.”
Syngenta’s overarching goal is to help meet the food demands of a growing global population by unlocking the full potential of plants while simultaneously working towards a 68% reduction in its carbon footprint intensity (based on value-added) by 2030, compared to 2016 levels. This target aligns with the global objective of keeping temperature increases well below 2°C from pre-industrial levels.
Currently, Syngenta’s supply chain contributes approximately 90% of its total carbon footprint, while the remaining 10% comes from its internal operations. To achieve its 2030 carbon reduction goal, the company is enhancing manufacturing efficiency, implementing energy-saving programs at its facilities, and increasing the use of renewable energy. Additionally, Syngenta is collaborating with its crop protection and seed suppliers to help them reduce their carbon footprint.
Over a decade ago, the Syngenta Group was among the first in the industry to introduce a sustainability-driven strategy. With the global population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, farmers must produce more food while minimizing environmental impact and preserving natural resources. Syngenta’s environmental sustainability initiatives, outlined in its HSE Code of ‘Practice on Environmental Sustainability,’ ensure responsible resource usage, conservation programs, and the adoption of eco-friendly practices. These include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing the logistics network to support a more sustainable agricultural future.
