Staff Report
Islamabad: Suzuki Pakistan has increased the prices of cars up to Rs 186000 per unit.
The increase applies across all models and this is a result of a sharp hike in sales tax and the imposition of a new levy. The government has increased sales tax was from 12.5% to 18% and also introduced a fresh levy on fuel-powered vehicles under the Finance Act 2025.
This levy called the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Levy has also impacted the price hike of Suzuki Alto, Cultus, Swift, and Ravi models.
The company has issued a price circular to all authorized dealers who confirmed the hike which applies to Alto, Cultus, Swift, and Ravi variants. Pak Suzuki has increased prices by up to Rs186,000 per unit.

Pak Suzuki has blamed the tax hike and the NEV levy for rising production costs. It had already approached the government to reduce the sales tax. It had warned the increase in the sales tax would also impact the sales volume in Pakistan.
The government has also imposed NEV levy on all fuel-based vehicles, including motorcycles and trucks. However, electric and hybrid vehicles have been exempted from it.
The government will not also charge on units made for export and vehicles diplomats or international agencies use. Industry experts have said that this tax would result in widening the prices gap between traditional and electric vehicles.
