Strict Measures To Prevent Accidents On Highways
Islamabad: During a high-level review meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA), chaired by Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization, and Board of Investment, Abdul Aleem Khan, further strict actions were agreed upon to reduce accidents on Motorways and National Highways.
The Federal Minister emphasized the need to take strong measures to address accidents caused by driver negligence on the Motorways. He highlighted the importance of establishing Emergency Services Centers every 30 kilometers and announced plans to introduce helicopter and air ambulance services along the Motorways and Highways.Senate Standing Committee Reviews Progress and Future Plans for IT and Telecommunications Projects
Abdul Aleem Khan affirmed that the Government is fully committed to ensuring the protection of human lives, regardless of the cost, and will take all necessary steps to achieve this. He also directed that Rescue Services 1122 stations be linked to Motorways to guarantee the rapid delivery of emergency medical assistance.
During the meeting, Abdul Aleem Khan was briefed on a recent bus accident on M-2, where the bus driver admitted to negligence and error. Following this, it was decided to implement stricter inspections for commercial buses.
The meeting also included updates on various NHA projects, with Abdul Aleem Khan instructing the NHA to ensure greater transparency in the Annual Maintenance Plan and to create a unified strategy, with specific directives issued to the Secretary of Communications.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the status of safety barriers and fencing on the Motorways, as well as complaints regarding potholes at different locations. The Federal Minister directed the IG of Motorways to enhance patrolling and take stringent action against those responsible for damaging or stealing the fences.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary of Communications, Chairman of NHA, IG Motorways, and the Director-General of Rescue Services 1122, who provided updates to the Federal Minister. Key decisions were also made on important departmental matters.
