LAHORE: Pakistan Post has issued a commemorative postage stamp worth 50 rupees to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tarbela Dam. The unveiling ceremony took place at WAPDA House, with Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) serving as the chief guest.

Additional Director General (Operation) of Pakistan Post, Rizwan Javed Hashmi, unveiled the stamp, which was attended by various officials, including the Post Master General of Central Punjab and WAPDA’s senior members.Pakistani IT Companies Shine at AI & Big Data Exhibition Europe 2024 in Amsterdam

During his remarks, the Chairman expressed gratitude to Pakistan Post for issuing the stamp, stating that Tarbela Dam represents Pakistan’s engineering excellence and commitment to socio-economic development. He described the commemorative stamp as a fitting tribute to this landmark project, emphasizing its enduring significance for future generations.

Following the ceremony, the Additional Director General presented an album of the commemorative stamp to the Chairman on behalf of Pakistan Post.

Tarbela Dam, completed in 1974, has been vital to Pakistan’s economic and social development over the past five decades.

It has released 406 million acre-feet (MAF) of stored water for agriculture and generated 590,361 million units of low-cost, environmentally friendly hydropower for the National Grid. The economic value of one MAF of water in Pakistan is estimated at $1 billion, leading to total benefits from Tarbela Dam exceeding $400 billion over the last 50 years.
