Sindh Dismisses Holiday Notification as False

The Sindh Education Department has confirmed that educational institutions in Karachi will remain open despite online claims of a holiday. Officials described the notification circulating on social media as fake and misleading.

“All schools and colleges will operate as normal on Tuesday,” a spokesperson said. “Any decision on closures will be made based on actual conditions and conveyed officially.”

The clarification comes as Karachi braces for heavy downpours forecast by the PMD over the next three days. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety guidelines during the rain spell.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the city administration had taken preventive measures, including clearing major storm drains and preparing relief camps. Extra pumps and vehicles are on standby to prevent flooding in underpasses and low-lying areas.

“Our priority is to protect citizens, not to play politics,” Wahab said, criticising opponents for launching projects without municipal approval. He called on Karachiites to stay calm, stressing that drainage and relief efforts would continue throughout the expected rains.

The move to quash false reports highlights growing concerns over misinformation on social media during emergencies. Authorities stressed that parents, students, and citizens should verify updates from official government channels.
