Sherry Rehman Calls for Urgent Action Amid Surge in Terrorism in Pakistan

Islamabad: In a powerful address during the Senate session, Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Sherry Rehman, raised the alarm on the escalating wave of terrorism in Pakistan, calling for an urgent and united national response. Expressing grave concern over the recent Bannu attacks and cross-border clashes with Afghanistan, she underscored the alarming surge in terror incidents across the country, warning that the situation poses an existential threat to Pakistan’s security and economy.

“The graph of terrorism in Pakistan is increasing exponentially. Pakistan now ranks second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terror-related fatalities rising by 45% in the past year alone, reaching 1,081 deaths. This is an extremely serious situation, and we must acknowledge that the storm is gathering once again,” said Senator Rehman.Case Filed Against Imran Khan and Ali Amin for Terrorism

Senator Rehman reminded the Senate of Pakistan’s long and hard-fought battle against terrorism, where the nation paid a devastating price with over 80,000 lives lost. “There was a time when terror attacks were a daily occurrence. We fought back with resilience, eliminated Al-Qaeda’s presence in Pakistan, and restored peace. But today, Daesh’s footprint in Afghanistan has surged by 40%, posing a direct and immediate security challenge for Pakistan,” she warned.

Senator Rehman stressed that mere condemnation and prayers for victims are not enough. “This issue is too urgent for us to sit and wait. We need a dedicated session to discuss this rising terror threat, followed by a joint resolution in Parliament, a formal condemnation, and a high-level in-camera briefing to formulate a strategic response,” she urged.

Senator Rehman further called for a designated day in Parliament to comprehensively review the terrorism situation and the national counterterrorism strategy. “This is not just a security challenge—it is a battle for Pakistan’s survival, our economy, and our future. Terrorism is now impacting every province, and parliament cannot afford to ignore this issue,” she asserted.

Senator Rehman urged all political parties to unite in tackling this escalating crisis. “Pakistan cannot afford to repeat history. We must take decisive and coordinated action now to protect our people and our hard-earned stability,” she concluded.
