Sazgar Launches Pre-Bookings for Hybrid SUV
Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SAZEW) has announced the start of pre-bookings for its first locally assembled plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the HAVAL H6 Hi4 1.5L AT AWD Turbo. The company shared this update in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.
According to the notification, the initial rollout of this completely knocked down (CKD) model is scheduled for August 2025. This launch marks Sazgar’s entry into the growing hybrid vehicle segment in Pakistan.
The HAVAL H6 PHEV combines a petrol engine with a high-capacity battery that can power the car independently for a limited distance. Once the battery is depleted, the vehicle switches to hybrid mode, using both fuel and electricity.
In addition to this SUV, Sazgar plans to launch two more plug-in hybrid models: the TANK-500 Hi4-T 4X4 2.0L Turbo AT and the CANNON ALPHA Hi4-T 4X4 2.0L Turbo AT pickup. The company aims to roll out both CKD models before March 31, 2026.
Industry analysts believe these developments could help boost competition and encourage further investment in Pakistan’s emerging EV market. The recent reduction in electricity tariffs for EV charging—by up to 45%—has already signaled government support for the transition.
Pak-Kuwait Investment Company’s Head of Research, Samiullah Tariq, noted that such steps could improve market options and drive interest in alternative fuel vehicles.
Meanwhile, Chinese automaker BYD also revealed plans to assemble its first car in Pakistan by mid-2026. The company hopes to meet growing demand in emerging markets while benefitting from local incentives.
