Revision of Pakistan’s 2019 E-Commerce Policy: A Call for Action
ISLAMABAD: Dr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna, Deputy Head of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has emphasized the urgent need to revise Pakistan’s e-commerce policy from 2019. He was addressing a workshop in Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), focused on Digital Marketing tailored for women entrepreneurs in Pakistan. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry hosted the workshop, organized by the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur Council (SCWEC), in collaboration with the UNESCAP South and South-West Office. This initiative is a significant step toward enabling women entrepreneurs to harness the power of digital platforms for business growth and empowerment.
Mr. Atif Ikraam, President FPCCI, while expressing the gratitude to Mr. Ratna, emphasizing the value of digital marketing skills for women-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. This is an invaluable opportunity for our women entrepreneurs to boost their businesses by learning directly from Mr. Ratna’s expertise, said Mr. Ikram.
Ms. Hina Mansab Khan, Chairperson SCWEC, addressed the participants, underscoring the importance of e-commerce and digital platforms in enhancing market access and increasing sales for women-owned SMEs.
Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik, Executive Committee Member, SAARC CCI (Pakistan) acknowledged Mr. Ratna’s commitment to advancing digital literacy among women entrepreneurs and acknowledged his continues support to SAARC CCI in creating an enabling environment for business across the region.
Earlier, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Butt, Secretary General in his opening remarks, warmly welcomed Mr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna, Deputy Head of UNESCAP and the participants, highlighting the importance of such initiatives.
The training session highlighted topics on Introduction to Digital Marketing and E-commerce and Product Development and Branding, offering practical insights into building an online presence and developing brands effectively. By training a new cohort of trainers within Pakistan, SCWEC, UNESCAP and FPCCI aim to create a ripple effect, enabling more women entrepreneurs to confidently launch and manage online businesses, particularly those who wish to work from home or on a part-time basis.
This collaborative event marks a commitment to building digital literacy among women entrepreneurs in Pakistan, ultimately facilitating their participation in the digital economy and fostering broader socio-economic growth across the region.
