Punjab on Alert as PDMA Warns of Flood Risk in Chenab and Tawi Rivers

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a high flood alert for the River Tawi and a flood warning for the River Chenab.

According to PDMA, rising water levels in Chenab may trigger flooding downstream at Marala, posing a threat to parts of Gujrat and Sialkot districts. The authority has also cautioned about possible flooding in tributaries and seasonal nullahs.

Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has ordered commissioners, deputy commissioners, and local administrations to remain vigilant. Departments of agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock, and transport have been instructed to prepare emergency response plans.

The PDMA emphasized that swift coordination among government bodies is essential to minimize risks and protect communities living near vulnerable riverbanks.
