Punjab Confirms Date for Schools to Reopen

The Punjab government has confirmed that all public and private schools across the province will reopen on 15 August 2025, following the end of the annual summer break.

However, many parents remain unsure whether the schedule will hold, as high temperatures continue to affect large parts of the region.

A government notification issued in May had set 15 August as the official date for the resumption of academic activities.

The Thursday reopening is expected to see low attendance, partly due to ongoing speculation about a possible extension of the holidays and the proximity to the weekend. A full return to school is likely from Monday, 18 August, if no changes are made.

Authorities have not yet issued a fresh statement addressing public demands for an extension, but officials have suggested that any revision will depend on a final assessment of the weather in the coming days.

Under the current plan, school timings will follow a heat-adapted schedule. For single-shift institutions, classes will run from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and end at 11:30 am on Fridays.

For double-shift schools, the morning session will follow the same timing, while the evening shift will operate from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with Friday hours shortened to 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
