Punjab Announces Public Holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi

The Punjab government has declared Saturday, September 6, 2025, a public holiday to mark 12th Rabiul Awwal, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

According to the announcement, all government and private institutions, including the Civil Secretariat, administrative departments, and outpatient departments (OPDs), will remain closed on the day.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Mawlid al-Nabawi, is celebrated across the Muslim world on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is a day when Muslims remember the life, teachings, and character of the Prophet.

The holiday is usually marked by religious gatherings, processions, and special prayers. Many communities also decorate mosques, homes, and streets with lights and banners. Charitable activities, including food distribution, are also organised as part of the celebrations.

Officials said the provincial holiday was aimed at allowing citizens to participate in religious events without any workplace obligations. Security measures are also expected to be tightened across major cities to ensure peaceful observance.
