PM Shehbaz Sharif meeting with President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had a meeting with H.E. Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia, during the D-8 Summit held in Cairo.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Prabowo on assuming the presidency and discussed various matters of shared interest, including bilateral relations in the areas of politics, trade, and economic cooperation, as well as collaboration at international platforms.Pakistan, Indonesia reiterate desire to increase cooperation
Highlighting the importance of frequent high-level engagements between the two nations, both leaders agreed to stay in close communication to sustain the progress in bilateral relations, with a particular focus on enhancing economic and trade ties further.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recognized Indonesia as a dependable trade ally of Pakistan, particularly as a significant supplier of palm oil, which is vital to meet Pakistan’s vegetable oil requirements.
Expressing Pakistan’s keen interest in strengthening its ties with ASEAN and its member states, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged Indonesia’s support in helping Pakistan secure Sectoral Partner Status within ASEAN and membership in the ASEAN Regional Forum. He expressed optimism that, with Indonesia’s continued assistance, Pakistan could achieve the status of a Full Dialogue Partner in ASEAN.
The Prime Minister also invited President Prabowo Subianto to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time. The Indonesian President graciously accepted the invitation.
Both leaders reiterated their steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause, urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and advocating for a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. They emphasized the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
