Power Division places Discos on emergency alert amid flood risk

The Power Division has issued emergency instructions to all electricity distribution companies (Discos) across Pakistan to maintain uninterrupted power supply amid heavy rains and flood threats.
Officials said the ministry has placed the entire power network on high alert due to the ongoing weather conditions. Distribution companies have been directed to protect critical infrastructure, including substations, feeders and control rooms, to prevent outages and damage.
According to the directive, operational teams are required to remain on standby and ready to respond quickly to emergencies. A flood monitoring cell has also been set up at the Power Division to track developments and coordinate responses.

The ministry further asked companies to work closely with local disaster management authorities and submit situation reports twice daily. It stressed that safeguarding electricity facilities was essential to ensure safety and maintain public confidence during the adverse weather.
Officials added that the instructions have been categorised as urgent, highlighting the potential risks to the power network if precautionary steps are not taken.
