PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Reform Commitment, Praises IMF Support

DUBAI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s determination to maintain the momentum of reforms, particularly in critical areas like tax reform, energy sector efficiency, and the development of the private sector.

During a meeting with IMF Managing Director, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai, he emphasized the progress made under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which has played a pivotal role in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and steering it towards long-term recovery.Political Uncertainty Casts Shadow Over IMF Deal: Fitch

The Prime Minister reassured Georgieva of Pakistan’s commitment to economic discipline, efficiency, and sustainability as crucial foundations for achieving inclusive and sustained growth.

Georgieva praised Pakistan’s efforts in effectively implementing the IMF-backed program, noting the country’s improving economic performance with increasing growth and decreasing inflation.
She acknowledged that Pakistan is on a growth trajectory and has undergone significant economic recovery.

The IMF Managing Director also recognized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and personal dedication to advancing the country’s reform agenda.

She reaffirmed the IMF’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s reform efforts, stressing the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline, undertaking structural reforms, and promoting good governance to ensure long-term economic stability and growth.

Additionally, in a post on his X handle, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for the IMF’s continued support to Pakistan. He mentioned his meeting with Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Dubai, stating that both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to achieving sustainable growth and financial stability.

The Prime Minister further noted that Pakistan is moving from macroeconomic stability to a path of sustained economic growth and prosperity.
