Consumers to Face Rs 1.27 Per Unit Increase in Electricity Rates

Islamabad: The electricity consumers are set to face increase in power tariff up to Rs 1.27 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for month of April 2025.
The increase in electricity rates is due to hike in energy prices used for power generation during the month under review.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency–Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has submitted a petition to national electric power regulatory authority (Nepra), seeking increase in electricity rates of Rs 1.27 per unit to burden the consumers with Rs 13 billion under the monthly fuel charges adjustment mechanism.
The power regulator will hold a public hearing on May 29, 2025 on CPPA-G’s request of adjustment in Discos tariffs.
In April 2025, hydel generation stood accounted for 11.4 per cent to 2,306 GWh against 2070 Gwh during corresponding period last year.
Power plants based on local coal generated 1,525 GWh, accounting for 14.51 percent of total generation. The generation cost stood at Rs 11.2115 per unit.
Generation from imported coal stood at Rs 16.6062 per unit.
Gas based plants generated 842 GWh (8.01 percent) at Rs 11.8166 per unit.
