Participants from 45 Countries to Participate DFDI

Islamabad: Despite the tensions in the region guests from 45 countries have already begun to arrive in Islamabad to participate in the Digital Foreign Direct Investment (DFDI) Conference starting in the federal capital from Tuesday.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, informed media here on Monday that despite various threats by India including some cyber-attacks the event will be a success.

“The participants includes delegations from China, Russia, USA, Indonesia Malaysia and even South America,” she said adding  that over 75 foreign investors and CEOs of more than 50 global companies are expected to attend the landmark event

She added that there have been several cyber-attacks originating from India at websites of some ministries – but they were all fizzled off.

“The cyber-security systems in Pakistan are very smart and we are among the top tier countries of the world ranking at the level of UK and USA in terms of cyber security,” Ms Khawaja added.

Highlighting Pakistan’s growing digital economy, the Minister announced that over 100 Pakistani IT companies and a large number of startups will present their products and innovative ideas to international investors.

The conference being organised under aegis of Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) is the first-ever DFDI meeting in Pakistan.

 Minister Khawaja mentioned that agreements with several investors have already been signed, and the Prime Minister is expected to announce potential investment figures during the event.

The Secretary General of DCO Ms Deemah AlYahyawill participate as a special guest and Pakistan is scheduled to get the presidency of DCO for 2026.

“We are working with Saudi Arabia to expand the DCO’s forum and including advanced economies like China into its fold,” Ms Khawaja added.

The foreign investors and delegations will also visit the National Technology Park and the focus of the conference is to strengthen private sector engagement.

“We are committed to creating a more business-friendly digital ecosystem, and reforms were being held in FBR and other government departments to reduce red-tapism in the government and facilitate ease of doing business,” the minister added. 

She highlighted the importance of the SIFC adding that it represents the whole of government approach, and it was the platform where the concerns of the IT ministry are forwarded to the FBR and other departments easily.

“We are moving toward establishing a one-stop shop for business services,” the Minister added, noting that the World Bank’s Project was being implemented to streamline business processes through digitalisation. “Our ultimate goal through National Digital Transformation is to create ease of doing business and attract significant investment into Pakistan’s tech sector,” the minister concluded.
