ISLAMABAD: Mr. Shahid Usman, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, visited the Engineering Development Board (EDB) today, October 29, 2024, for an in-depth briefing on the activities undertaken by the EDB. The briefing was attended by Engr. Khuda Bukhsh Ali, CEO of EDB, along with senior management and other officials.
The CEO provided an overview of the EDB’s functions and its accomplishments since its inception in 1995. The Parliamentary Secretary was informed about the current responsibilities, which encompass advising the government on industrial matters, policy development, market expansion, and export promotion for the engineering sector, industry support, industrial partnerships, quality standards, specifications, and the implementation of vehicle regulations.
The Parliamentary Secretary commended the efforts of EDB’s management in formulating the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP 2021-26), the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy, initiatives to promote solar and related equipment, and new programs aimed at advancing the engineering sector, including policies for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), local manufacturing of agricultural tools, a Petrochemical Policy, and promotional activities.
He highlighted that EDB’s commitment to fostering innovative technologies aligns with the current government’s vision. He also praised EDB for developing a comprehensive policy to enhance local production and expedite the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and NEVs, which is essential for a sustainable transport system in Pakistan, as well as promoting energy efficiency and the transition to clean technologies and a healthier environment.Climate Change Ministry Signs Pact to Mitigate Nitric Acid Emissions
The Parliamentary Secretary recognized EDB’s past participation in international exhibitions and encouraged the continuation of best practices without any policy changes. He further acknowledged EDB’s efforts in shifting mobile phone production from imports to local manufacturing, alongside initiatives to boost localization and exports in the automotive sector.
The CEO of EDB expressed gratitude to the Parliamentary Secretary for his visit and assured that, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industries and Production, EDB will continue to play a supportive role for the entire engineering sector in Pakistan. The Parliamentary Secretary confirmed that, in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision, he would facilitate the development of the industrial sector and engage more frequently with EDB in the near future to provide maximum support for business growth, industrialization, exports, and job creation.
