Manufacturing Surges in July 2025

Pakistan’s local mobile manufacturing industry recorded a sharp rebound in July 2025, assembling 3.59 million handsets, up 123 percent year-on-year and 64 percent month-on-month, according to fresh data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

Growth Drivers

The July surge is largely explained by a low base effect. In July 2024, mobile phone output had dipped after excessive pre-buying in June 2024, ahead of anticipated budgetary changes. Similarly, June 2025 production slumped to 2.19 million units due to regional supply chain disruptions, creating room for a strong month-on-month rebound.PTA drafts rules for local mobile manufacturing

7M2025 Trends

Despite the July rally, total locally assembled mobile phones during the first seven months of 2025 slipped 6 percent year-on-year to 17.83 million units. Basic 2G phones continued to dominate with 9.36 million units (52 percent), while smartphones accounted for 8.47 million units (48 percent).

Local plants met 95 percent of Pakistan’s mobile phone demand in the January–July 2025 period, underscoring the country’s growing self-reliance in handset assembly.

Market Share – Top Brands

Among the leading brands:

  • VGO Tel led the market with 2.12 million units in 7M2025
  • Infinix followed closely with 2.01 million units
  • Itel (1.53 million), Vivo (1.38 million), and Xiaomi (1.04 million) completed the top five
  • Samsung (0.93 million), Tecno (0.89 million), QMobile (0.72 million), G’Five (0.70 million), and Nokia (0.65 million) rounded out the top 10.

Outlook

Industry players expect handset sales to grow 7–8 percent year-on-year over the next 12 months, with base effects now normalizing and inflationary pressures easing. September smartphone launches by Samsung and Xiaomi are likely to further support demand.

Within listed companies, Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) and Lucky Cement (LUCK) stand to benefit most, given their strong local assembly operations for brands such as Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung,” Topline said.
