Pakistan, UK in Talks to Boost Esports Industry

A significant meeting between the British Esports Federation and Pakistan’s Esports Task Force was held at the Prime Minister’s Office, marking a step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to formally recognise esports as a professional industry.

Chaired by Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, head of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, the session focused on developing a comprehensive esports policy and strengthening the sector’s ecosystem in the country.

Participants discussed the possibility of granting esports official industry status in Pakistan. The meeting also explored strategies to connect local talent, such as PUBG and Tekken champions, and independent game developers, with global esports platforms.

Delegates from both sides agreed on introducing esports as a viable career path for Pakistani youth. The discussion included integrating esports-related education, animation, and gaming effects into academic and technical institutions to nurture future professionals.

The creation of a national esports ecosystem was also a central topic, with emphasis on international collaboration, talent recognition, and infrastructure development.

As part of the wider vision, the Digital Youth Hub initiative was proposed to be aligned with the esports policy, aiming to bridge digital skills with competitive gaming opportunities. The strategy is expected to provide structured pathways for Pakistani players to access global competitions and careers.

Consultations with game developers and top esports players are expected in the coming weeks to gather grassroots input. The aim is to ensure that esports growth in Pakistan is inclusive, sustainable, and professionally guided.
