Pakistan, Turkiye pledge to achieving $5b trade volume
Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to continue their efforts to achieve the target of a five-billion-dollar trade volume.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with the Pakistan-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council session in Islamabad.
Addressing a press briefing afterward, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that both countries are considering broadening the scope of their existing trade agreement in the initial phase.Pakistan & Türkiye Strengthen Economic Ties with 21 New Agreements, Trade Expansion Plans
He further highlighted that Turkish investors will be encouraged to increase their engagement in Pakistan and take part in flagship projects.
Erdoğan noted that the military dialogue and defense industry collaboration between the two nations have significantly boosted trade and investment relations. He emphasized that both sides have reiterated their commitment to advancing joint projects and potential cooperation areas, including procurement, sales, and co-production initiatives.
Referring to the 24 agreements signed today, the Turkish President expressed confidence that they will prove beneficial for both nations and the broader region.
He also acknowledged Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan in its battle against all forms of extremism.
Touching on the Kashmir issue, Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people. He assured that Türkiye will continue advocating for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute through dialogue, in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri population.
Additionally, the Turkish President praised Pakistan’s steadfast stance on the Palestinian cause, affirming that both countries will continue working together toward the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s consistent and principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for the cause of Northern Cyprus and pledged unwavering solidarity with Türkiye on the matter.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan during challenging times, including natural disasters like floods and earthquakes. He emphasized that compassion and generosity have been the foundation of this enduring partnership and expressed confidence that the fraternal ties between the two nations will continue to strengthen. He further noted that the Turkish President’s visit has elevated bilateral relations to a new level.
The Prime Minister stated that both sides discussed a wide range of topics, including trade, investment, strategic collaboration, and defense cooperation. He highlighted the agreements and MoUs signed, including the establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by Turkish firms for industrial production, and assured that these commitments will be translated into concrete actions through joint efforts. He pledged to work closely with President Erdoğan to ensure the effective implementation of these agreements.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a luncheon in honor of the Turkish President and his delegation.
