Islamabad: The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, H.E. Khazar Farhadov, met with the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, at her office on Wednesday. During the meeting, Ms. Alam highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives in preparing for COP29, emphasizing the need for global consensus on key climate issues and strengthening the country’s climate action strategies. She pointed out that Pakistan’s involvement in COP29 would aim to protect its national interests and reinforce its position in the global climate dialogue.
“Pakistan’s preparations for COP29 are part of a wider strategy to engage with international partners and solidify its stance on critical climate challenges,” said Ms. Alam.
She also stressed that the country is actively working to meet its emission reduction goals as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and highlighted the importance of international support in achieving the sustainable development goals related to climate change.
The Coordinator also underscored the vital role of developed nations in fulfilling their financial obligations to support developing countries in their efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
Furthermore, Ms. Alam noted that Pakistan has made significant progress in transitioning to renewable energy, particularly in solar and wind power, and aims to showcase these renewable energy projects at COP29.
Ambassador Farhadov expressed Azerbaijan’s strong commitment to deepening cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in the field of climate action. He stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in areas such as sustainable development, climate change, and regional collaboration. The ambassador also pointed out that COP29 provides a valuable opportunity for both nations to collaborate and advance their shared interests in these crucial areas.
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their dedication to working together to tackle the challenges of climate change and to strengthen global efforts toward climate action.
