Oil Industry Warns of Oil Shortage in Lahore

Staff Report:
Islamabad: The oil industry has warned the severe oil shortage in Lahore following restrictions imposed on movement of oil tankers in Lahore.

The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), a representative body of refineries, oil marketing companies (OMCs), and a pipeline company, has raised concerns over the recent restrictions imposed on heavy traffic movement in Lahore.Petrol Price Slashed by Rs10, Diesel 13 Per Liter

The OCAC has highlighted that the Traffic Police’s ban on the entry of heavy vehicles between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM has extended to petroleum oil and lubricants (POL) tankers, critically disrupting fuel delivery to over 400 petrol pumps in the city.

With Lahore’s population of over 5 million, the restriction has caused significant challenges in maintaining a consistent fuel supply. The OCAC pointed out that Karachi, which has a similar ban, exempts POL tankers from the restriction, enabling uninterrupted fuel delivery within city limits.

In a formal communication to the Chief Secretary of Punjab, the OCAC emphasized the necessity of granting an exemption for POL tankers in Lahore. The OCAC has argued that such an exemption is essential for preventing fuel shortages and ensuring public convenience.

The OCAC has urged the Punjab government to urgently review the advisory and implement measures to safeguard Lahore’s fuel supply chain.
