Obama Beats Attenborough, Hanks, Elba to Emmy Win
Barack Obama won his third Emmy Award on Sunday, cementing his place as a dominant voice in documentary storytelling.
The former US president, aged 64, was awarded Outstanding Narrator for his work in Netflix’s Our Oceans at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Obama’s narration stood out among a star-studded field of nominees that included natural history icon Sir David Attenborough, actors Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, and writer-performer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The Netflix series used cutting-edge underwater filming techniques to showcase the life of the planet’s oceans. Obama narrated stories of whales, walruses, and marine ecosystems, with the “Indian Ocean” episode earning special praise from critics.

Obama’s absence at the Los Angeles ceremony was noted, though comedian Jordan Klepper accepted the award on his behalf.
This marks his third consecutive Emmy in as many years. He previously won for Our Great National Parks in 2022 and Working: What We Do All Day in 2023.
With three Emmys, two Grammys, and a Nobel Peace Prize, Obama has become one of the most decorated political figures in cultural history, blurring the lines between politics, media, and the arts.
