Musadik Malik Commends IWMB for Rescuing Asian Black Bear “Rocky”

Islamabad : The Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, under the leadership of Federal Minister Musadik Masood Malik, reaffirmed its commitment to wildlife protection and animal welfare as it oversaw the successful rehabilitation of Rocky, a 7-year-old Asian Black Bear rescued from a brutal past.

Rocky’s heartbreaking story came to light after a viral video revealed his appalling condition following 35 forced dog fights in Sargodha. Severely injured and unable to eat due to a broken jaw, he was rescued through the collective efforts Rina Saeed appointed chairman IWMBof the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) and Four Paws International.

Upon learning about Rocky’s condition, the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination actively facilitated his rescue, ensuring swift action. With the Punjab Wildlife Department’s request for assistance, IWMB and Four Paws International intervened, safely sedating and transporting Rocky to the IWMB Rescue & Rehabilitation Center, where he received critical medical care, including wound stitching, neutering, and microchipping for identification.

Today, Rocky was successfully shifted to his new enclosure, marking a significant milestone in his journey to freedom. Federal Minister Musadik Masood Malik attended the ceremony, commending IWMB’s efforts and reaffirming the government’s commitment to wildlife protection.

“Rocky’s rescue is a testament to our dedication to protecting Pakistan’s wildlife,” said Federal Minister Musadik Masood Malik. “We deeply appreciate IWMB’s relentless efforts and assure the nation that the Ministry is taking firm steps to prevent such cruelty in the future, strengthen wildlife laws, and ensure the protection of species like the Asian Black Bear.”

The Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, along with Secretary Ministry of climate change, remains steadfast in its mission to protect and rehabilitate wildlife, ensuring a cruelty-free and sustainable future for all species in Pakistan.
