LAHORE: Finance and Revenue Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling the power sector.
He made this statement during a meeting with Mark Skelton, Chairman of the Board of Directors at K-Electric, and other officials in Islamabad.Nepra Increases Power Tariff by Rs 1.75 Per Unit
Aurangzeb explained that the reforms will involve reconstituting the Boards of Directors for Distribution Companies (Discos) by incorporating professionals from the private sector and reducing the number of government appointees. This is aimed at enhancing board efficiency and improving overall service quality.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring private sector involvement in all government-owned discos and generation companies (gencos).
The Minister noted the initiation of the privatization process for three discos, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision to empower the private sector and drive economic growth.
The K-Electric team briefed the Minister on their plans to incorporate renewable energy into their generation mix, aiming to reduce electricity costs for Karachi.
They also updated the Minister on other measures being undertaken by K-Electric to enhance service delivery for Karachi residents.
