K-Electric Sees Strong Industrial Response to Winter Package
Karachi: K-Electric (KE) has received a positive response to the Prime Minister’s Winter Demand Initiative, which offered reduced electricity rates for increased usage from December 2024 to February 2025.
This initiative was designed to encourage higher electricity consumption during the off-peak season and proved particularly successful among industrial clients.
Within KE’s service area, industrial consumption saw an increase of 6-7% during the initiative’s duration. This growth highlights KE’s commitment to supporting Karachi’s industrial sector and aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to boost economic productivity.Energy Experts Hail K-Electric’s Privatization as a Role Model for other DISCOs
Imran Rana, KE’s Head of Communications, remarked on the initiative’s effect: “The Prime Minister’s Bijli Sahulat Package resulted in the usage of over 100 million electricity units across Karachi, helping customers benefit from increased consumption during the off-season.”
He continued, “KE is dedicated to supporting the growth of industries, understanding that a strong industrial sector is key to economic stability. This clearly demonstrates the success of such targeted initiatives, and we encourage the continuation of measures that make energy more affordable while promoting efficiency.”
This development follows the government’s decision to reduce electricity rates for residential, commercial, general services, and industrial customers on additional consumption during the winter months (December to February). The aim of this initiative was to stimulate energy use amid high tariffs and economic difficulties.
