Japan Funded Pavement Link Road Project Inaugurated in Shinkiari, District Mansehra

ISLAMABAD: Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, officially inaugurated a new infrastructure initiative in Jhandwal village, located in Shinkiari, District Mansehra. The project, which involved the construction of a link road, was carried out by Saibaan Development Organization—an NGO dedicated to supporting underprivileged communities in rural Pakistan with a focus on reducing social inequality.

Funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program, the initiative received financial support amounting to 56,418 USD. The funding was used for paving a 3,800-foot stretch of road, in addition to building culverts and retaining walls to ensure sustainability and safety.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including board members of the NGO, representatives from both federal and local government bodies, and notable community figures. Among them was Mr. Sardar Shah Jahan Yousaf, a Parliamentary Leader and Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Japan funded electricity projects inaugurated.

With over two decades of experience in rural development, Saibaan Development Organization has successfully partnered with government entities and donor agencies to carry out impactful projects. This particular road construction effort, backed by the Japanese government, significantly enhances the daily lives of people in this remote area by easing transportation challenges. It ensures a safe and dependable route for 330 students commuting to school and facilitates better access to healthcare and local markets for nearly 2,700 residents.

During his speech at the event, Ambassador Akamatsu commended the NGO for its dedication and the successful delivery of the project. He remarked that “constructing a link road goes beyond infrastructure—it unlocks opportunities, bridges communities with essential services, and lays the foundation for future development.” He highlighted the long-term value this project would add to the progress and well-being of the area.

Ambassador Akamatsu also reaffirmed Japan’s ongoing commitment to supporting Pakistan in improving the quality of life for its citizens. He expressed hope that this initiative would further deepen the strong bonds of friendship between the Japanese and Pakistani people.
