Islamabad Weather: Rawal Dam Near Full, Spillways May Open

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad weather becomes rude and rainy and Radam is near to full capacity and authorities may open spillways.

Continuous monsoon rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have caused a sharp rise in Rawal Dam’s water level and authorities have started considering to open the spillways if downpours persist.

According to dam officials, the water level in Rawal Dam has surged by 10 feet during the current monsoon spell. The dam with a full storage capacity of 1,752 feet, has now reached 1,747 feet which now close to the threshold. It requires controlled water release.

To protect health of youth Government should priorities health policies.

“If the rain continues at this pace, we may be forced to open the spillways as a precautionary measure,” a senior official from the Small Dams Organization told NewzTodays.net adding that they are monitoring the situation closely.

Authorities have urged to remain alert especially those residents who are living downstream and near nullahs. They have also asked them to follow advisories issued by the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) and NDMA. The administration has also put Emergency response teams on standby position to take safety measures.

The twin cities have seen multiple rain alerts in recent days as heavy showers are flooding low-lying areas and disrupting routine life. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain for the next 48 hours and therefore the Islamabad weather may become more tough rude to cause more floods.

For real-time updates, residents can follow PMD’s official forecast and Islamabad’s District Administration advisories.
