HEC hosts an online Erasmus+ information session for Pak students

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) organized an online session titled “Erasmus+ Information Session for Pakistan” to provide an overview of the Erasmus+ program. The session highlighted various opportunities for Pakistani Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including International Credit Mobility (ICM), Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), and the Jean Monnet (JM) activities.

HEC stated that the session focused on explaining these initiatives, their advantages, and application procedures, with a special emphasis on opportunities for education, training, and international partnerships.IBEX Repurchases Shares Worth US$70 Million from TRG

The event was attended by HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, EU Charge d’Affaires to Pakistan Mr. Philipp Oliver Gross, HEC Advisor Mr. Muhammad Raza Chohan, university vice chancellors, faculty members, and representatives from academic institutions across Pakistan.

Mr. Kashif Jehan, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) for Pakistan, facilitated the session.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed highlighted that Pakistan has led the world in Erasmus Mundus scholarships for three consecutive years, with 189 Pakistani students being awarded in 2024.

He encouraged Pakistani universities to excel in other components of Erasmus+, particularly in capacity-building programs, collaborative research, and partnerships with European institutions.

Mr. Gross underscored the objectives of Erasmus+, which include engaging, connecting, and empowering youth. He noted that this aligns well with Pakistan’s predominantly young population.

He further mentioned that since 2021, 31 Pakistani HEIs have been involved in capacity-building projects, with two universities receiving Jean Monnet grants. He expressed optimism for greater participation by Pakistani universities in the future.

Mr. Chohan referred to Erasmus+ as a transformative initiative that promotes global inclusivity and mutual understanding.

He stressed that sessions like this play a pivotal role in connecting participants with potential Erasmus+ collaborators, thereby broadening educational and collaborative prospects.
