Green Energy Transition a Top Priority, Says Musadik Malik
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination Senator Musadik Masood Malik, on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and climate resilience, joining the global community in efforts to safeguard our shared home—Earth.
In his statement on the occasion of World Earth Day 2025 marked every year globally on April 22, he said, “This year’s Earth Day theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, reminds us that the solutions to the climate crisis are within our grasp.” “It is a call to action—a collective imperative to move away from polluting fossil fuels and embrace clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower.”
“Pakistan is on the frontlines of climate change and continues to endure devastating floods, record-breaking heatwaves, prolonged droughts and rapid glacial melt. However, Earth Day is an opportunity to reflect on these escalating challenges—and to accelerate collective efforts involving government, civil society, youth, and the private sector, Musadik Masood Malik remarked.green energy projects
He also highlighted that the present government underpins the unprecedented significance of green energy and is committed to transition to renewable energy sources—such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, tidal, and geothermal—to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
Highlighting the present government’s proactive role in climate leadership, the Minister emphasised, “Transition to green energy is both a global necessity and a national priority. Under the current government’s direction, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has spearheaded major initiatives aimed at clean energy transformation, environmental protection, and sustainable development.”
Spelling out the key initiatives spearheaded by the ministry in collaboration with relevant stakeholders he said the green initiatives, which aim to achieve environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals include implementation of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Policy, expansion of solar energy through the Roshan Pakistan initiative, deployment of off-grid clean energy solutions in underserved rural communities, launch of a Green Stimulus Package to create green jobs, rollout of the National Electric Vehicle Policy to decarbonise transportation and collaboration with provincial governments to integrate climate-friendly energy planning at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, in her message regarding the world earth day-2025 said that from promoting reforestation and smart agriculture to accelerating renewable energy and clean mobility, Pakistan can effectively help shape a cleaner, stronger, and more sustainable future for us and our future generations.
“Pakistan stands committed to using its power not just to protect the planet but to build a better tomorrow for every citizen,” said the state minister stressed.
Calling upon all stakeholders, policymakers and communities, she urged for celebrating the Earth Day with meaningful actions—plant a tree, conserve water, reduce plastic, and support green policies. Every step counts to achieve overall environmental sustainability and climate resilience in Pakistan.
The state minister Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan also urged the public to unite in climate action spearheaded by the present government through different programmes and initiatives being implemented for environmental conservation and protection of natural resources particularly of water, forests, soil and air.
“With unity, awareness, and innovation, we have the power to heal the planet. Let’s use that power wisely—for ourselves and for generations to come,” the state minister remarked.
