Govt Confirms Gen Asim Munir to Lead Army Until 2027
Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah has confirmed that Field Marshal General Asim Munir will continue to serve as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff until November 2027 under the existing law.
Speaking to reporters, Sanaullah explained that following amendments to the service laws, no fresh notification was required for extending the tenure of the Army, Air Force, or Navy chiefs.
“The law is clear. On the day the Air Chief completes his five-year term, he will retire automatically. The same rule applies to others,” he said.
Sanaullah praised General Munir’s leadership, describing him as the most deserving of continuity given Pakistan’s security challenges.
“The successes under his command speak for themselves. The law allows extensions, and we have seen such precedents before. What matters today is stability,” he remarked.
The minister argued that consistent leadership was vital in navigating Pakistan’s regional and domestic security environment. He noted that earlier governments had also endorsed extensions to ensure continuity in national defence.
Sanaullah dismissed speculation that the current arrangement was controversial, stressing that it was fully in line with legal provisions and past practices.
