GB Police Tighten Social Media Rules with TikTok Ban

The Gilgit-Baltistan police have prohibited their officers and officials from using TikTok, stepping up efforts to regulate social media activity within the force.

The ban was announced in a notification from the inspector general’s office on Monday. It directed all district officers and unit heads to convey the order to their subordinates. Any breach would lead to disciplinary action, the circular warned.

The decision comes after multiple incidents nationwide highlighted inappropriate use of social platforms by police personnel. Just weeks earlier, Islamabad police suspended two constables for posting videos in uniform. Punjab Police too had cautioned officials against making offensive statements online.

Last year, both Islamabad and Punjab introduced dedicated social media policies for their forces, requiring senior officers to monitor online conduct within their zones. The federal government also reminded employees to avoid political or religious content and not to share information without authorization.

Experts argue the GB police’s move is an attempt to reinforce the credibility of law enforcement agencies. Social media videos may gain popularity but risk undermining professionalism, particularly when filmed in official uniforms.
