Qingdao – During the 3rd Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference, Federal Minister of Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, met with H.E. Zhang Jianhua, Administrator of the Chinese National Energy Administration (NEA) in Qingdao. The Power Minister extended warm congratulations on the successful execution of the Conference.

In the meeting, Minister Awais reflected on Premier Li Qiang’s historic visit to Pakistan, where both parties reaffirmed their strong commitment to collaborating on the development of an “enhanced version” of CPEC.

The Minister expressed profound gratitude to the NEA for its ongoing support in addressing energy shortages in Pakistan, especially during a time when the country faced unprecedented power outages. He noted that since 2013, both sides have initiated 15 energy projects that have contributed over 8,000 MW of electricity to the national grid.

With the commencement of the second phase of CPEC, both leaders expressed a strong desire to deepen and reinforce their energy collaboration, including the modernization of power transmission and distribution systems in Pakistan.

The Minister also conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding the tragic loss of two Chinese engineers in an incident in Karachi on October 6, 2024. He stated that the Government of Pakistan firmly condemns the terrorist attack aimed at Chinese nationals, reiterating its steadfast commitment to enhancing security measures and ensuring the safety of all Chinese personnel in the country.

Additionally, the Minister for Power extended a warm invitation to Administrator Zhang to visit Pakistan officially at the earliest opportunity.
