Consumers to Face Rs 1.27 Per Unit Increase In Electricity Bills

Islamabad: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday reserved a judgement to allow increase in electricity rates up to Rs 1.27 per unit on account of Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) of the month of April, 2025.
On Thursday, NEPRA conducted a hearing to consider the tariff hike plea of the Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G).
NEPRA Chairman chaired a hearing that was attended by representatives of CPPA-G, officials from the Ministry of Energy, business community members, journalists, and members of the public.
CPPA had called for hike in tariff up to Rs 1.26 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for the month of April 2025.
The consumers will pay increase for one month if it is approved by the regulator.
All Discos consumers will face increase excluding lifeline consumers, pre-paid meter users, and electric vehicle charging stations. It will not also apply to K-Electric consumers.
During the public hearing, power regulator had heard the views of all stakeholders and would conduct further scrutiny of the submitted data before issuing a detailed decision on the matter.
The actual fuel cost of fuel for electricity generation stood at Rs9.9197 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) against the reference cost of Rs7.6803 per kWh, registering an increase of Rs1.2685 per unit.
The petitioner asked the regulator that increase should be recovered from the electricity consumers.
The total power generation stood at 10,513 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in April. As many as 10,196 GWh which accounts for 97 percent— was received by the distribution companies.
RLNG based plants generated over 20 percent of the electricity at cost of Rs24.26 per unit. The cost of electricity through imported coal based stood at Rs16.60 per unit.
