Committee Expresses Dissatisfaction Over PIA CEO’s Absence, Directs Attendance at Next Meeting

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges expressed its strong displeasure over the non-attendance of the meeting by the Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan International Airline Corporation Limited (PIACL). The Committee emphasized that such practices are unacceptable and must not recur.

The 7th meeting of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges was convened today at the Parliament House, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA.

The Committee offered Fatiha for the departed soul of the ex-MNA/Member of the Committee, Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur (Late).  PIA pays 450 staff for one aircraft

Regarding Privilege Motion moved by Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel, MNA, against the officials of PIA, the Committee expressed its dissatisfaction over the absence of CEO, PIA. The Committee underscored that such negligence would not be tolerated in the future. Consequently, the Committee directed CEO, PIA to attend the next meeting in person.

While discussing the Question of Privilege moved by Ms. Sabheen Ghouri, MNA, the Committee directed Deputy Inspector General of Police, Islamabad to present all the officials before the Committee who were involved in the incident of misbehavior with the Hon’ble MNA.

The Committee considered the amendments moved by Ms. Aliya Kamran, MNA in Rule 208 of sub rule (2) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. After deliberations, the Committee decided to obtain opinion of the Ministry of Law and Justice on the proposed amendments.

Due to non-availability of Mover, the Committee decided to defer the Question of Privilege raised by Mr. Fateh Ullah Khan, MNA / Mover.

The meeting was attended by the following MNAs: Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jillani, Mr. Zulfiqar Bachani, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Mr. Ali Khan Jadoon, Ms. Aniqa Mehdi, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Mr. Waseem Qadir (via Zoom), and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan (via Zoom). The Movers,      Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel, Ms. Aliya Kamran and Ms. Sabheen Ghouri, MNAs, also attended the meeting. Senior officers from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, Ministry of Housing & Works, LESCO, Islamabad Police and Punjab Police were also in attendance.
