Bringing Eid Joy to Patients Away from Home: ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid’ Initiative

Karachi: As Pakistan faces an increase in the number of illnesses, many patients find themselves in hospital wards during one of the most celebrated times of the year—Eid. For these individuals, the holiday season brings separation from their loved ones, missing out on traditional festivities, and a deep yearning for the comfort of home.

Eid is a time of togetherness, filled with joyful experiences such as Eid prayers, family gatherings, festive meals, and the beloved custom of exchanging Eidi. However, for those receiving medical treatment, these simple but meaningful traditions are often beyond reach. Men miss the early morning prayers and the warm embrace of their families, while women are unable to enjoy the excitement of Chand Raat, applying Mehendi to their hands, and preparing for the celebrations. Patients who have traveled from smaller towns to larger cities for treatment also feel the absence of their families more intensely during this period.Prime Minister greets Amir of Qatar on Eid ul Adha

Acknowledging the emotional and mental challenges faced by these patients, the ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid’ initiative, supported by Getz Pharma, brought the joy of Eid to hospitals across Pakistan. Eid was celebrated in hospitals in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur, ensuring that patients, healthcare providers, and staff could share in the joy of the occasion.

Healthcare professionals played a pivotal role in connecting with their patients, offering comfort and companionship to those unable to be with their families. The initiative saw hospital wards decorated with festive ornaments, the distribution of gifts and Eidi, and moments of shared happiness that captured the true spirit of Eid.

“At its core, Eid represents unity, kindness, and the sharing of happiness. Through ‘Hum Sab Ki Eid,’ we wanted to bring a sense of connection and warmth to patients who would otherwise miss out on the celebrations,” said Dr. Nazish Butt, Gastroenterologist.

This initiative underscores the significance of emotional health alongside medical care, reminding everyone that no one should feel isolated during this special time. By creating joyful moments and fostering a sense of community, the program brought comfort to those spending Eid away from home.
