Authorities Ramp Up Anti-Dengue Drive Amid Rising Cases

The dengue outbreak in Rawalpindi shows no signs of slowing, with 12 fresh cases reported in three leading hospitals. Officials confirmed that 60 patients are currently under treatment, 36 of whom have tested positive.

Localities including Dhoke Hassu, Afandi Colony, and Shah Chan Chiragh have been identified as hotspots. Health experts warn that stagnant water from recent rains has accelerated mosquito breeding in these areas.

In response, Commissioner Aamir Khattak chaired a high-level meeting to review prevention measures. He directed authorities to sustain round-the-clock sweeping and fumigation operations in 13 vulnerable union councils.

“All departments must strictly follow anti-dengue SOPs. The current weather makes larvae control a challenge, and coordinated action is vital,” he said.

Officials attending the meeting included Deputy Commissioner Attock Atif, CEO Health Dr Ehsan Ghani, and Director Health Dr Ijaz. They reaffirmed that public awareness campaigns would continue alongside field operations.

The health department has urged residents to eliminate water collection points in their homes and surroundings to reduce breeding sites.
