Audit Finds Dozens of Vehicles Unaccounted For
An audit of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Livestock Department for the financial year 2023–24 has uncovered that 80 government vehicles are unaccounted for, raising serious questions about asset management and transparency within the department.
According to the audit report, more than 200 vehicles were purchased between 2007 and 2021 under various development projects. However, during the latest audit process, officials were unable to provide documentation or physical evidence for 80 of those vehicles.
Records from the Excise Department indicate that the missing vehicles are still registered under the name of the Director General of Livestock. Despite this, there is no proof of their use in fieldwork or their presence at departmental offices.
The report has recommended urgent action to locate the missing vehicles and hold those responsible accountable. It also raised concerns over the department’s failure to maintain proper records, which may have allowed the alleged misappropriation to go unnoticed for years.
Fazal Hakim, the provincial minister for Livestock, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. He confirmed that formal letters have been sent to the concerned authorities, directing them to assist in recovering the vehicles. In addition, a departmental inquiry committee has been formed under the supervision of the Secretary of Livestock to investigate the issue.
