Meta Unveils API for Llama AI models
Staff Report:
Islamabad: Meta Platforms has unveiled a new application programming interface (API) for its Llama AI models to attract developers and businesses who are looking for customizable AI tools.
Meta made this announcement during Meta’s first AI developer conference. This is a signal that the company is going to challenge competitors such as OpenAI, Google, and China’s DeepSeek.
Meta Chief Product Officer Chris Cox said that users could now start using Llama with just one line of code.
Currently it is available in limited preview but the Llama API would become more widely available in the coming months.
Although Meta has not disclosed pricing, but it said that company was committed to offer Llama models largely for free. It has emphasized innovation and deeper integration with its platforms.
Meta has also introduced a standalone AI assistant app and revealed plans to test a paid AI chatbot subscription by Q2. It highlighted its broader commercial ambitions.
Company executives have stressed the flexibility of the Llama offering. Manohar Paluri, VP of AI at Meta said: “Whatever model you customize is yours to take wherever you want, not locked on our servers.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has used Meta’s open approach as a counterbalance to industry consolidation.
