Agriculture chemicals imports grew 4.77% in five months of FY2024-25
ISLAMABAD: The import of agricultural and other chemical products into the country during the first five months of the current fiscal year rose by 4.77% compared to the same period in the previous year.
From July to November 2024, agricultural chemicals valued at $3.7 billion were brought into the country, up from $3.531 billion during the corresponding months of the prior year, as reported by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.Two-day Int’l Conference on Agriculture 2024 to begin in Karachi tomorrow
During this period, fertilizer imports experienced a significant surge of 57.31%, with 628,418 metric tons of manufactured fertilizers worth $382.184 million imported. This marked an increase from 462,043 metric tons valued at $242.955 million in the same timeframe last year.
Conversely, imports of insecticides saw a decline of 35.12%, with 10,767 metric tons worth $55.018 million imported, compared to 16,014 metric tons valued at $84.804 million during the equivalent period in the previous year, the data indicated.
Additionally, the import of plastic materials rose by 2.46%, and medicinal products saw a 17.80% increase during the last five months of the current fiscal year. Approximately 809,029 metric tons of plastic materials costing $1.2 billion and 15,678 metric tons of medicinal products worth $511.477 million were imported, showing an upward trend compared to the same period last year.
